HARTFORD, Conn.--Western New England University employed a balanced offensive attack--one that saw a 6-0 run in the second quarter--to hold off host Trinity College, 14-11, in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest on Wednesday at Jessee/Miller Field. The Golden Bears earn their first road win to improve to 2-2 on the season, while the New England Small College Athletic Conference Bantams fall to 1-3 overall.

Jon Bota led Western New England with a hat trick as one of six Golden Bears with at least two goals. Sophomore
Keegan Dudeck led all scorers with a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists, while classmates

Matthew Hauck paced Trinity with four goals and an assist, James O'Connell added a hat trick and an assist, and Stefan Pappas notched a pair of tallies.
Leading 2-1, Western New England scored the final goal with 52 seconds left in the opening quarter as Dubose found the back of the cage to ignite an eight-goal run that lasted into the third. Dubose also ended the run with another unassisted tally just 38 seconds into the second half, making the score 10-1. During the outburst, WNE outscored Trinity 6-0 in the second quarter alone, including Bota with a pair and Dudeck with a man-up goal.
Ryan DeSimone, who ended up with three assists, scored the Bantams' first goal of the second half to make it 10-2 at the 13:13 mark of the third quarter.
O'Connell scored all three of his goals on the afternoon in the third to help Trinity get back in the game. Pappas scored back-to-back goals 40 seconds apart and Michael McQuiston (2 assists, 5 ground balls) tickled the twine with 20 seconds left to pull the pesky Bantams within 12-8.
Hauck scored two goals in the opening 7:57 of the fourth quarter to cut into the WNE lead, 12-10.
The Golden Bears, however, won the ensuing face-off after Hauck's tally at 7:03 and the timely possession paid off as
Patrick Dillon ripped a goal at 5:47. Hauck scored again at 2:36 to make it a two-goal game again before Dudeck iced the win 46 seconds later to close the scoring.
Junior
David Cedrone was terrific in the face-off "X" by winning 16 of 27 draws and collecting a game- and season-high 10 ground balls for the Golden Bears, who were 13-for-15 on clears and killed off three Trinity man-up chances.
Senior goalie
Brandon Body made 16 saves to help preserve WNE's win as the Golden Bears were outshot 43 to 36. Body stopped nine shots in the second half when Trinity held a 31-14 shots advantage, and now he leads the Commonwealth Coast Conference with 65 saves.
Western New England returns home on Saturday (1 p.m.) to host nationally No. 6 (tied)-ranked SUNY Cortland at Golden Bear Stadium before the spring break.
