Western New England falls to Roger Williams 5-3 in Commonwealth Coast Conference game

BRISTOL, RI - Katherine Mahoney scored three goals to lead Roger Williams to a 5-3 victory over Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey game Friday night (Sept. 25).

Meghan Curran added a pair of goals and an assist for the Hawks who improved their record to 4-5 and 2-2 in the conference.

Katherine Ferrari tallied two goals and Michelle Carlson also scored for the Golden Bears who now are 4-3 and 1-2 in the CCC. Emily Antinozzi contributed a pair of assists.

Western New England took a 2-1 lead on Ferrari's first goal at 19:28 before Curran hit the back of the net twice in a 5:41 span to give the hosts a 3-2 margin at halftime.

Mahoney gave RWU a 4-2 advantage early in the second half before Ferrari fired in her second goal to get WNE within a goal at the 65:05 mark.

Mahoney completed the hat trick two minutes later to put the contest out of reach.

Mya Lunn compiled eight saves for Roger Williams while Grace Trupe had four saves for Western New England.

Each squad had 15 shots in the game.
