DUDLEY, Mass. (October 8, 2016) – The Western New England University field hockey team earned a 4-1 victory at Nichols College this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Vendetti Field
Top Performers
• Junior forward Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) continued her hot streak with a four-point effort, scoring one goal and assisting on two others.
• Junior goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) stopped three of the four shots that she faced.
• Junior forward Amy McDonnell (Newbury, Mass.) scored Nichols' only goal of the contest, ending Western New England's shutout bid with just 1:26 remaining in regulation.
Game Review
• Freshman forward Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) staked Western New England to a 1-0 lead 17:37 into the game, scoring her fourth goal of the season on a feed from DeLima.
• The Golden Bears doubled their advantage in the 28th minute, as DeLima collected a rebound and sent a shot past Nichols freshman goalie Brooke Misbach (Guilford, Conn).
• Western New England added to its lead just 2:23 into the second half, as DeLima sent in a cross and junior midfielder Brianna Novaris (Plaistow, N.H.) was there to finish the play for her first goal of the season.
• Junior forward Michelle Carlson (Hackettstown, N.J.) capped the scoring for the Golden Bears at the 45:09 mark, when she chipped a shot into the cage after classmate Allison Jackson's (Mahopac, N.Y.) attempt was blocked.
• McDonnell got the Bison on the board with less than two minutes remaining, beating Trupe with an unassisted strike from eight yards out.
Notes
• DeLima has posted six consecutive multi-point performances. She leads the Golden Bears and ranks second in the CCC with 31 points this fall.
• Western New England is now 2-0 against Nichols this season after posting an 8-0 victory over the Bison on September 24.
• The Golden Bears outshot the Bison by a commanding 25-9 margin, and also held an 11-10 edge in penalty corners.
