Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 23, 2021) – The Golden Bears field hockey team hosted Gordon College for CCC play on senior day under the lights where Western New England dominated for a 5-0 win on senior day.

How It Happened:
The Golden Bears opened the game strong scoring just 1:12 into the game with Sarah Johnston ricocheting a hard shot off the pads and Ali Larochelle picking up the rebound to send a hard shot at the boards to score the first goal of the game. Just 37 seconds later, Johnston was heading up the end line toward the cage when she sent a pass to the stroke line where Larochelle picked up the pass and sent the same hard shot into the boards to score her second goal of the game and gave the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead.
The second quarter opened with a Golden Bears goal just over three minutes into the quarter with Taylor Klesyk finding the boards off a pass from Johnston. Before the end of the quarter, Western New England connected again when Olivia Eastman collected a free hit at the top of the circle, dodged a defender to the left and then sent a hard shot at the cage that went through the goalkeeper's legs to score the fourth goal for the Golden Bears.
It wasn't until the fourth quarter when the Golden Bears found the back of the net again. Larochelle hit a hard shot off the goalkeeper's pads that Eastman picked up the rebound and redirected the ball to the bottom right of the cage to score the fifth and final goal of the game. The Golden Bears defeated the Fighting Scots 5-0.
Inside the Numbers:
- Zoey Wexler earned the win for her third shutout of the season while Laura Dion recorded two saves in the second half.
- Johnston recorded two assists in the game while Larochelle earned two goals, Eastman tallied two goals and Klesyk notched the fifth goal for the Golden Bears.
- The Golden Bears outshot the Fighting Scots 21-2 and earned eight penalty corners to Gordon's zero.
