Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 28, 2021) – The Golden Bears traveled down the road to city rival Springfield College this evening for a non-conference match up where Western New England dominated winning 6-0 over the Pride.

How It Happened:
The first quarter was slow moving for both teams offensively where the Golden Bears recorded only two shots in the first fifteen minutes of play while Springfield had one shot that went wide. In the second quarter, about nine minutes in, the Golden Bears were able to score with Taylor Klesyk finding Ali Larochelle who was able to redirect the ball into the cage for Western New England to take a 1-0 lead. With under two minutes left in the half, the Golden Bears charged the Pride goal recording back-to-back shots before Sarah Johnston picked up the rebound around the stroke line and sent a hard shot to the bottom right corner of the cage to score the second goal and earn the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead at the half.
Just under three minutes into the second half Larochelle does it again from Klesyk to extend the Golden Bears lead to 3-0. At the 38:29 mark, Western New England earned a penalty corner where Klesyk sent a shot at the goalie and then collected the rebound and lifted the ball into the left corner of the cage for the Golden Bears' fourth goal of the game. Right before the end of the third quarter the Golden Bears earned another penalty corner. This time Ali Martin found the boards from Carly-Anna Barba to score the fifth goal for Western New England. Johnston mustered in the last goal of the game at the 50:45 minute mark to propel the Golden Bears past Springfield 6-0.
Inside the Numbers:
- Zoey Wexler earned the shutout win in the net for the Golden Bears with three saves.
- Western New England outshot Springfield 21-6 and earned seven penalty corners to the Pride's six.
- Both Larochelle and Johnston earned two goals apiece while Klesyk tallied one goal and two assists in the game. Barba earned one goal in the game.
