Box Score West Hartford, Conn. (September 28, 2021) – The Western New England men's soccer team suffered their first road loss of the season at the hands of the hosting Bantams of Trinity College as two different goal scorers for the Bantams led them past the Golden Bears from a wet and foggy night at the Trinity College Soccer Field.
Records:
- Western New England: 6-2-1 (2-0 CCC)
- Trinity College: 2-5-1 (0-3 NESCAC)
How it Happened:
The Golden Bears started off the game with a corner kick, just five minutes into the contest. Western New England would not be able to take advantage of some early contest momentum as they looked to take down the Trinity College Bantams for the second time in three seasons as well as hand Trinity their fourth straight loss. First year Mike Milazzo would put the Golden Bears on the board, in the shots department as he stepped into the box and took a shot that was taken care of by Bantams starting goalie Bernardo Simones. Simones would deny the Golden Bears three times in the opening 45 minutes. Brady Allen completed his one save attempt in the first half as Western New England out shot Trinity 6-4 to open the game.
The Bantams would open the scoring in the contest in the first six minutes of the second half when Logan Peterson collected his first goal of the season. The senior collects his first goal of his career as well to give Trinity the opening 1-0 lead. Trinity turned the edge on the contest as they would take the next two of three shots in the contest, though Allen stood tall to keep the Golden Bears in the contest.
Trinity College would attack again in the 67th minute when Michael Traynor would pick up his second goal of the game. Traynor took a shot that got past Allen to put the Bantams ahead 2-0. The Golden Bears face their first two goal deficit of the season, nine games into the season. Western New England was not able to gain any sort of momentum on goal as they were outshot 6-4, a flip of the first half, by the Bantams in the second half. The Golden Bears would take a shutout loss in the regular season for the first time since October 23, 2019, when they were taken down 3-0 by Endicott College in CCC play.
