Golden Bears Get Stuck In The Storm, Fall to UNE 4-1

BIDDEFORD, ME. (October 11, 2025) – WNE was in Biddeford, Maine, on Saturday to take on the Nor'Easters. UNE scored three goals in the second quarter to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Kate Kelso, Abby Stevens, and Micaela Jacobs all had goals in the first half for the Nor'Easters. WNE got on the board in the third quarter thanks to a Mackenna Cooke goal, but it was too little, too late as they fell 4-1 to the Nor'Easters after a late UNE goal in the 58th minute from Riley Zielinski.

How it Happened:

  • Alex Tardugno started in goal for WNE, while Greta Jennison started for UNE on the other end of the field.
  • WNE had the opening shot of the first quarter, but it was all UNE for the rest of the second quarter.
  • UNE would have a corner and three shots after that. Tardugno made two saves.
  • UNE would pick up two more penalty corners and a shot, but could not score. The first half ended with the teams tied at zero.
  • The second quarter started quickly. UNE had a penalty corner in the 17th minute, taken by Abby Stevens. The ball would find Shelly Tremblay, who sent the ball to Kate Kelso for the goal. UNE led 1-0.
  • WNE responded with a penalty corner and a shot on goal in the 18th minute. Mikayla Mrzywka had a shot saved by Jennison.
  • Abby Stevens would double the UNE lead in the 20th minute on an unassisted goal. UNE led 2-0.
  • UNE would keep sending pressure at WNE. They had two penalty corners and a shot blocked after that.
  • UNE did not back down with a 2-0 lead and most of the goal-scoring chances.

  • WNE thought that would garner momentum going into the fourth quarter, but UNE had other ideas. They took control of the fourth and final quarter with four penalty corners and two shots in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter.
  • Then, in the 58th minute, Riley Zielinski would score after an Abby Stevens assist. UNE extended their lead back to three goals and led 4-1.
  • UNE had two more shots after that and held on to a 4-1 conference win versus the Golden Bears.
