WNE Football Heads To Curry Saturday Afternoon For CNE Action

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 24, 2025) – The Western New England football team plays its second straight Conference of New England road contest following a bye week last week, taking on the Colonels of Curry College, looking to bounce back from a tough loss last time out to Endicott College.

Last Time Out:

The Golden Bears took a 45-24 loss last Saturday night to the Gulls of Endicott College, giving up 21 points in the third quarter, which gave the Gulls the win. The game was tied at ten after the first quarter as the two teams split a field goal and a touchdown to open the scoring. The Gulls had the only seven points of the second quarter, notching a big run for a touchdown to start the frame, but neither team could break through following, as the Golden Bears took a seven-point deficit into the locker rooms. Endicott football was first on the scoreboard to begin play in the second half, scoring its third touchdown of the night, bringing the Gulls' lead to 14. The blue and gold responded quickly, getting a touchdown through the air on an eight-play, 65-yard drive to get back within seven. From there, Endicott blew the game wide open with a pair of big-play touchdowns, a 75-yard kickoff return for a score and an 84-yard rushing touchdown, both from Bryan Ferreira, giving the Gulls a massive advantage, taking a 38-17 lead after the third quarter. The Gulls scored the opening touchdown of the fourth quarter, while Western New England had just one more score in them with five minutes remaining, not enough to come up with the road victory. Endicott put up 45 points and beat Western New England by a final score of 45-24, Endicott's fifth straight victory over the Golden Bears in the series history.

Curry College was all over the local, regional, and national news last week following its massive 71-27 win over CNE opponent Nichols College. Curry star Montie Quinn broke the NCAA rushing yards record last week, carrying the ball 20 times for an outstanding 522 yards and scoring seven times on the ground to shatter the rushing yards record in a single game by a student-athlete. Despite the record, Nichols had a 7-3 lead with under four minutes to play in the opening quarter before Quinn began to take over. Quinn rushed for three touchdowns in the first half, a 30-yard, 64-yard, and 76-yard touchdown, as the Colonels went up 31-13 at the break. Quinn continued his historic day with four more rushing touchdowns in the second half, beginning with an 84-yard score on the first offensive possession of the quarter for Curry. Quinn finished out with an 85-yard run, a 58-yard score, and a 2-yard run, capping off the day with the 522 total yards on just 20 carries, averaging over 20 yards per carry as Curry was well on its way to a blowout home victory over the Bison. The Colonels now sit at 5-1 on the season, its most wins in a single year since 2017.

Offensive Production (WNE):
In the loss to the Gulls last week, graduate student De'Andre Harris picked up eight catches for 155 yards, the most yards in a single game by Harris in his career. Harris caught one touchdown in the game, his fifth touchdown reception of the season. Harris is nearly averaging 100 yards per game and has at least one touchdown in four of six games this season for the blue and gold. Paul Gorry quarterbacked the Golden Bears last week at Endicott, throwing 16 completions, half to Harris, on 34 total attempts, amassing 203 yards and three touchdown passes. Jova'n Hill and Kevin Acosta were the other two recipients of the Gorry touchdowns in the game. On the ground, Western New England saw Matt LaMontagne rush 19 times for 88 total yards. LaMontagne was shut out of a touchdown for the first time this season, but still leads WNE with seven rushing scores on the season.

Offensive Production (Curry):
Montie Quinn sums up the bulk of the Curry offense this season. The Curry senior running back has rushed 123 times this season out of 228 attempts, gaining 1,450 yards, averaging 241 yards per game through six games on the year, having scored 17 touchdowns overall. Quinn ranks first in the NCAA in multiple offensive categories, including all-purpose yards per game (253.33), rush yards per carry (11.79), rushing touchdowns (17), rushing yards (1,450), rushing yards per game (241.7), scoring (18.0), total points scored (108), and total touchdowns (18). When Quinn is not called to run, the Curry offense has been led by graduate quarterback Anthony Santino, who has completed 69 passes on 109 attempts, a 63% success rate, throwing for 959 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Santino's top target has been Wesley Williams this season. The sophomore has picked up 24 catches for 348 yards and has scored six times through the air. Kareem Chaplin II (3), Matthew Bowen (2), and Colin Ridley (2) have all contributed touchdowns for Curry this season and have all accomplished over 100 yards of receiving for the season.

Lockdown Defenders:
Junior Nick Kolifrath continues to lead the Golden Bears defense in tackles. In the week five loss to Endicott, Kolifrath was at the top of the tackle chart for WNE, coming up with five solo and three assisted tackles, good for eight total in the game. DJ Gordon picked up six solos and an assisted tackle for the blue and gold while also notching a tackle for loss. Johnny Ferrentino recorded six tackles and two breakup passes while Maurice Henlon and Ryan Clark all had six tackles each in the game.

Western New England's total defense ranks fourth in the Conference of New England and 92nd overall among 241 ranked in NCAA Division III. The Golden Bears have given up an average of 32 points per game. WNE's rushing defense ranks first in the CNE, which will be put to the test this weekend with the strong rushing presence of Quinn for Curry.

Lockdown Defenders (Curry):
The Colonels' defense has held opponents to under 28 points in all but one game this season, and has three games of giving up zero, seven, and twelve total points. In last week's game against Nichols College, Shane Field led the Colonels with nine solo tackles. Nachbi Chery came up with six total solo tackles and an assisted tackle, while also recording a breakup pass and an interception for Curry in the win. Jaden Scott, Dillon Adams, and Eli Vasquez-Bastardo all recorded six tackles, with Adams adding a sack. Leo Yardumian leads Curry with 30 total tackles on the season, 12 solo, and 18 assisted, and has 5.5 tackles for loss for a loss of 30 yards, two full sacks, an interception, and a breakup pass.

Special Team Leaders (WNE):
Max LoGrasso made his lone field goal attempt last week at Endicott, a 21-yard attempt, remaining perfect on the season in FGA. The first year was also a perfect 3/3 on extra point attempts, improving to 22/23 on the season. Western New England punted twice, with John Moss and Rhys Surprenant getting a chance. Moss punted for 34 yards while Surprenant collected a 48-yard boot that landed inside the 20-yard line. Isaiah Jolly returned six kicks for 122 yards for the Golden Bears, getting the start on special teams.

Special Team Leaders (Curry):
Omar Aboutoui has made six of his seven field goals on the season, including one last week against Nichols. Aboutoui has also made 35 of a possible 38 extra point attempts for the season. Lyle Ssengonzi made his lone field goal in week five against Maine Maritime Academy, a 31-yard attempt. Aboutoui has been charged with punting duties for the Colonels this season as well, punting eight times for an average of 37 yards per kick, landing four inside the 20-yard line, and causing two fair catches. Jordan Depina has a kickoff return for a touchdown, the lone special teams touchdown of the season for Curry, a 75-yard score to open week five against Maine Maritime.

The Matchup:
Western New England football goes for its tenth straight win over Curry all-time on Saturday. The Golden Bears have not taken a loss to the Colonels since the 2014 season and have won five straight games in Milton overall.
