SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 28, 2025) – The Little East Conference (LEC) has once again named a Golden Bear Swimmer as one of their Swimmers of the Week for last week's performances. After competing in four events at WNE's meet versus UMass-Dartmouth, WNE's Ella Smith was named Swimmer of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Chicopee, Massachusetts native, Ella Smith, has been named the LEC Swimmer of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. Smith swam in four events for the Golden Bears on Friday, October 24. Smith started by being part of the WNE relay team that won the 200-yard Medley Relay on Friday evening with a time of 1:59.34. Smith swam the Breaststroke leg of the race. Smith then swam the 50-yard Backstroke, not a typical event for Smith. Smith would swim a 28.75, earning first place again, and missing a WNE record by 0.12 seconds. Smith then placed first in the 200-yard Backstroke. Smith swam a fluent 200 with a final time of 2:16.65, which did not miss the WNE program record by much once again. Smith finished up her performance at the meet with the 500-yard Freestyle event. Smith swam a time of 5:28.46, which placed her in first and earned her another WNE record by nearly two seconds. Smith's four swims, all being first-place finishes, put her atop the LEC in terms of weekly performance within the LEC.
Smith and the Golden Bears are off for a week before they travel to Gordon College on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM. They will take on the Fighting Scots of Gordon College and the Owls of Westfield State University in a tri-meet.
