Golden Bears Entertain Curry In CNE Matchup At Home Saturday Afternoon

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 23, 2026) – The Western New England football team will look to get back to its winning ways this coming Saturday afternoon when they host the Colonels of Curry College at Golden Bear Stadium for a 12:00 PM kickoff.

Last Time Out:
Despite shutting out the visiting ninth-ranked Gulls of Endicott College in two different quarters in last week's Conference of New England showdown, the Golden Bears gave up 35 points and scored just ten of their own in a 35-10 loss on home turf. WNE opened the game with the lead following a field goal from 38 yards out, but the Gulls quickly took over in the second quarter, putting up 21 points on the Golden Bears, scoring on all of their offensive drives. WNE's lone touchdown of the game came in the second quarter, when a fumble at the EC one-yard line led to a quick rushing touchdown for the Golden Bears, who got back within four, stopping the run by Endicott, 14-10. The Gulls tacked on a score with just one second remaining in the second quarter, picking up six points from 19 yards out, while converting the extra point, giving the Gulls a 21-10 halftime lead.

Western New England made a big defensive stop to open the third quarter, not allowing the Gulls to add any points right out of the shoot to begin the frame. Western New England went for fourth-and-nine from the Endicott 35 on its first offensive drive of the second half, but came up short, turning the ball over on downs, and Endicott needed just three plays to score again and take a 28-10 lead over the Golden Bears. After a quick three-and-out by the WNE offense, Endicott used six and a half minutes of clock to come away with another touchdown, which ended up being the final score of the game, giving the Gulls a 35-10 lead. The fourth quarter saw the Golden Bears pick up just two offensive possessions, one that led to another failed fourth-down conversion and the last an interception, icing the game for Endicott, who took the 25-point victory over the Golden Bears to remain undefeated on the season.

Offensive Leaders:
Western New England completed just seven passes on 15 attempts in the game, using a run-heavy offense, that saw the Blue and Gold come away with 46 rush attempts in the game. Corey Kilroy completed five passes on nine attempts, throwing for 48 yards. Kilroy tossed an interception and was sacked in the game once. Paul Gorry threw two completions on six attempts for 25 yards, also throwing an interception. On the ground, Kilroy was the lone Golden Bear to come away with a touchdown, picking up 19 carries for 59 yards. Matthew McGuire carried the ball 13 times for 58 yards, while Marcus Crawford picked up 11 carries for 43 yards. Western New England picked up 176 yards on the ground in the game, while Endicott was just ahead of that with 190 yards. The Golden Bears' receiving corps was led by James Burg, who picked up three catches for 34 yards. Kevin Acosta, Alex Silva, Jova'n Hill, and McGuire all came away with catches for WNE in the game.

Defensive Leaders:
The Golden Bears made just three tackles for loss in the game on defense, led by Austin Pszczolkowski, who picked up seven total tackles and registered three quarterback hurries, a season-high, in the game. Nick Kolifrath picked up two solo tackles and eight assisted tackles for the Golden Bears in the game, good for a team-high ten tackles. Dimaggio Ferrara and Ryan Clark also helped Western New England on the defensive end. Kolifrath leads the Blue and Gold with 48 tackles this season, 19 solo and 29 assisted, totaling 2.5 tackles for loss and a half sack. Ferrara is third on the team for the Blue and Gold, picking up 34 total tackles this year. WNE's total defense ranks third among CNE schools this season.

Special Teams:
Max LoGrasso knocked through his first field goal of the season last week against Endicott, hitting from 38 yards out. LoGrasso also extended his perfect streak of extra point attempts to begin the season, hitting his lone try. Rhys Surprenant punted three times for the Golden Bears against the Gulls, averaging over 41 yards per punt, with a long of 47 yards. Surprenant put one punt inside the 20-yard line and accomplished that feat four times this season. Chris Digiacomo led the WNE kickoff unit last week, kicking off three times for 169 yards, averaging 56.3 yards per kick. Jova'n Hill returned four kickoffs for the Golden Bears, averaging over 25 yards per return, including a 48-yard return in the second quarter, the longest of his career. Christian Delgado picked up one kickoff return for Western New England for 21 yards in the loss to the Gulls.

Quick Scout on Curry:
The Colonels will come into Golden Bear Stadium with a 4-2 record and have yet to drop a Conference of New England contest this season, starting the year 3-0. Curry has defeated Maine Maritime Academy (34-14), New England College (48-19), and Nichols College (34-31) this season in conference action, including last weekend's road victory over the Bison. Offensively, the Colonels are guided by junior quarterback Caden Borges, who had thrown 66 completions on 104 pass attempts (63%) for 1,224 yards. The transfer from Anna Maria College has tossed 18 touchdown passes this season while rushing 16 times for 70 yards and a touchdown on the year. With the absence of Curry's all-time rush leader this season in Montie Quinn, the Colonels have flipped the page and turned to junior Jordan Depina, who has carried the ball 78 times for 453, both tops on the team, rushing for three touchdowns. Elia Bahuma is right behind Depina with 68 rushes for 411 yards, also scoring three touchdowns. The Colonels have scored 11 touchdowns on the ground this season, averaging 213 yards of offense in the run game. Through the air, the Colonels are led by senior Colin Ridley, who has picked up 22 catches for 356 yards and has scored five touchdowns this season. Ridley has four career touchdowns over the Golden Bears in his career, a pair last season in Curry's first win over WNE since 2014, and two more coming during the 2024 season. Wesley Williams is tied for the most touchdowns among running backs and receivers this season in the CNE, totaling eight through the air on 18 catches for 383 yards. Williams went for seven catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns last week at Nichols and opened the season with five catches for 106 yards and four touchdown catches against Bridgewater State. Kareem Chaplin III is another deep threat for Curry, having caught 14 passes for 276 yards and a pair of touchdowns this season.

On defense, the Colonels are led by sophomore Gabe Santos, who has registered 26 solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles for the season. Santos averaged just shy of seven tackles per game and also had 2.5 tackles for loss. Pasquale DeLucia leads Curry with 1.5 sacks on the season and 3.5 total tackles for loss. Lucas Lender, Michael Monbleau, and Shane Field are all a big part of the Colonels' defense, which gives up 35.5 points per game, including over 50 twice.

On special teams, the Colonels see William Emmons as the lead placekicker, having made 30 of 34 extra point attempts this year. Emmons is 0/2 on field goal attempts for Curry this season. Weston Cooper has punted ten times during the season, averaging 33.4 yards per kick. Kareem Chaplin II is the biggest threat for Curry's special teams, having returned 16 kickoffs for 507 yards and taken the ball all the way to the end zone twice this season. Both Lucas Lender and Colin Ridley have returned punts for touchdowns this season. Curry leads Division III in punt returns this season.

The Game:
Western New England will look to end its mini two-game losing streak and will also be looking for revenge on the Colonels, who snapped their nine-game winning streak over Curry last season. WNE is 6-3 all-time at Golden Bear Stadium and has won its last six games overall on home field against Curry.
