NASHUA, N.H. â€" Third-seeded Western New England College stayed alive in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament with a 5-4 victory over second-seeded Suffolk University Friday night.

It was the Golden Bears' second win in two days over the Rams who were eliminated from the tournament.

Sophomore second baseman Jason Connelly (Scituate, MA) had the game-winning sacrifice fly as WNEC scored twice in the ninth inning.

Senior David Gwozdz (Ludlow, MA) (6-3) picked-up the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief for his school record 24th victory.

Junior centerfielder Jeff Maurutis (Milford, CT) had two hits, including a homer.

In the afternoon game, WNEC managed only two hits in dropping an 11-1 decision to top-seeded Johnson & Wales University.

WNEC needs two wins over the Wildcats to win the tournament.
