SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Freshman Dan Lawrence (Easthampton, MA) scored the game-winner with his first collegiate goal as Western New England College ran its winning streak to three games with a 3-1 victory over visiting Springfield College.
WNEC (5-2-1) led 1-0 at half-time after sophomore Scott Bullis (Barre, VT) scored his first goal of the season in the 16th minute with another assist from Zawislak (Newark, DE).
The match remained close until Lawrence gave the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead with a shot from the left side in the 79th minute.
Sophomores Tim Larocca (East Longmeadow, MA) and Mike Zawislak (Newark, DE) assisted on the winning shot.
Junior Mike Schnepp (Feeding Hills, MA) made it 3-0 with his second goal of the season 26 seconds later with an assist from sophomore Evan Heymann (Ipswich, MA).
The Pride (3-4) averted a shutout when junior Justin Pepoli (Ashburnham, MA) hit the back of the net in the 83rd minute with an assist from freshman Tony Distasio (Burlington, CT). The goal was the first for a WNEC opponent in 481 minutes covering six matches.
Senior goalkeeper Jay Martyn (Poughkeepsie, NY) made four saves in recording his fourth win of the fall. Freshman BJ Sturdivant (Bear, DE) had five stops for Springfield.
