SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 5, 2025) – Four seniors from the Western New England men's soccer team played in their final collegiate competition this past weekend, participating in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League's Senior All-Star Game.
Jayden Montagna,
Shay O'Neill,
Jack Leland, and
Matt Spruill all took part, representing Western New England.
Jayden Montagna played in 80 games for the Golden Bears over his four-year career, making starts in 71 of those games. A native of Agawam, Massachusetts, Montagna registered eight goals and added four assists at Western New England, good for 20 career points. Montagna took 63 shots, including a career high of 23 shots during his senior season. Half of Montagna's goals came as game-winning goals for the Golden Bears. The WNE senior played in 5,741 total minutes on the pitch. Montagna has been honored by multiple organizations for his academic excellence and community service efforts throughout his career.
Shay O'Neill saw action in 74 games during his four years on the Western New England men's soccer team. O'Neill picked up four goals and added nine assists for the season, good for 17 points. The Belchertown, Massachusetts, native took 124 shots in his career, hitting the target 37 times. O'Neill played in 4,870 minutes on the pitch, making 70 starts over his 74 games played. O'Neill was named to the Conference of New England All-Conference team twice during his career and was just recently named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team this past season.
One of the most consistent defenders in the program's history,
Jack Leland transferred to Western New England during his sophomore season and made an impact during his three seasons in Blue and Gold, playing in 60 games, making 56 starts. Leland also contributed to the success of the WNE offense, scoring five goals and adding five assists over his career. Leland added 48 shots, 25 shots on goal, and 4,984 minutes played to his resume at Western New England. Leland was twice named to the Conference of New England (CNE) All-Conference Teams, as well as twice being named an All-Region player by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
A flexible midfielder and defender, senior
Matt Spruill saw action in 76 games over his four years with the Golden Bears men's soccer team, making 67 starts overall. Spruill netted nine goals in his career and picked up three assists, good for 21 points overall. Spruill added 56 shots, putting half on goal (26) to his statistical resume, scoring three game-winning goals for the Golden Bears, and played in 5,796 minutes on the pitch in his career.
The four Western New England seniors enjoyed a 34-31-17 record during their time at Western New England, including a 22-10-4 mark in conference action, capturing the Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer championship in 2023, the team's first title since 2016, and advancing to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships that season.
