SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Senior leftfielder Chris Mahoney (Yorkville, NY) extended his school record hitting streak to 42 games by going 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI as Western New England College defeated Elms College 13-2 in its home opener Friday.

Sophomore designated hitter Chris Fredericks (Wallingford, CT) went 3-for-4 with two runs while sophomore first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA) was 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Senior Frank Candella (Marcy, NY) allowed only four hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts and only one walk in five innings to even his record at 1-1.

Western New England College is now 8-1 after winning its fifth consecutive game.
