SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Chris Anderson (Moodus, CT) allowed only three hits over eight innings and senior centerfielder Jeff Maurutis (Milford, CT) went 2-for-4 with a double and sacrifice fly to lead Western New England College to a 10-0 victory over Westfield State College at Trelease Park.

Anderson, a lefthander, struck out six and walked two in raising his record to 4-1. Sophomore Eric Blanchard (Worcester, MA) retired the side in the ninth.

Senior catcher Matt Hackney (Bristol, CT) contributed a two-run single in the seventh while freshman second baseman Ryan Kravontka (Glastonbury, CT) had a double and two RBI.

This was the third shutout in the last eight contests for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 16-5.

Western New England College is ranked fifth in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III coaches poll.
