(March 29, 2026) – The Western New England baseball team took two wins on Sunday afternoon in Conference of New England action over the Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology, winning game one by a final score of 7-4, and game two 15-5 in seven innings, led by first-years
Mark Zigmont,
Tyler Waterbury, and
Jacob Kreis, who all launched their first career home runs to pace the Golden Bears to victory.

How it Happened (Game 1):
Third Inning:
- Both teams got solid starting pitching to begin the game, Tanner Wall taking the ball for WNE and Aaron Masson for Wentworth. The Leopards had the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning, seeing Alex Dayton lead off with a double to left field, then stole a base and scored on a groundout to give the Leopards the opening 1-0 lead. Western New England had just one base runner through the opening three frames and no hits.
Fourth Inning:
- WNE's offense came alive in the top of the fourth, coming away with three hits, but the Golden Bears could not score a run. Jack Gamache, Leo Paragarino, and Corey Kilroy all picked up singles, but Gamache was caught trying to take an extra bag on the Paragarino single, while Tyler Waterbury and Alex Grenier couldn't advance the runners, seeing WNE remain scoreless.
Fifth Inning:
- Wentworth added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth, seeing Caleb Cormier lead off the inning with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, and then a groundout, giving the Leopards a 2-0 lead off Wall.
Sixth Inning:
- The Golden Bears saw the offense come alive in the top of the sixth, giving run support to their starting right-hander support, pounding out five runs and seven hits in the inning. Leo Paragarino started the hit parade with a single, followed by a single from Corey Kilroy. Tyler Waterbury loaded the bases with one out, converting on a bunt single. Alex Grenier followed with the fourth straight hit for Western New England, scoring the first run of the game on an infield single as the bases stayed loaded. Greg Nivison had the fifth straight single for the Golden Bears to tie the game at two. A two-out double from Connor Cowern put the Blue and Gold ahead 4-2, while all nine batters in the WNE order came to the plate, with Mark Zigmont's infield single scoring the last run of the inning for WNE, who took away a 5-2 lead out of the top of the sixth frame.
- Jack Lewis came into the game to pitch for Western New England in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a pair of singles to begin the outing, but a double play eliminated two Leopards from the base paths quickly. Wentworth was able to score on a wild pitch to get one run back in the inning, seeing WNE take a 5-3 lead after six innings.
Ninth Inning:
- The Golden Bears added insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning, seeing a leadoff walk from Jack Gamache lead to trouble for Wentworth, as Gamache would score on an eventual Tyler Waterbury double, while Ryan Montini delivered a single to right center field, scoring Waterbury, giving the Golden Bears a 7-3 lead.
- The Golden Bears called upon Jason Pinsonnault to close the game out. Pinsonnault gave up a single, a hit by pitch, and a walk and came out of the game in favor of Brody Rogers, who got a popout, a flyout, and a strikeout swinging, holding Wentworth to one run on a sacrifice fly to close out the game and earn his first save of the season, giving WNE a 7-4 win, their first CNE victory of the season.
Inside the Lines:
- Connor Cowern's two-RBI double in the top of the sixth inning put the Golden Bears ahead for good in the win. Cowern went 2/4 at the plate, picking up a pair of RBIs.
- Corey Kilroy led the Golden Bears with three hits in five at-bats.
- Kilroy, Cowern, Tyler Waterbury, Greg Nivison, and Leo Paragarino all had a pair of hits in the win for WNE. The Golden Bears had 15 hits in the win.
- Tanner Wall earned the victory in the game, going five innings, giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out three. Jack Lewis went three innings, giving up five hits and a run. Brody Rogers finished the ninth with his first save of the season.
How it Happened (Game 2):
First Inning:
- The Golden Bears opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, seeing Mark Zigmont open the game with a walk and eventually coming around to score on a Corey Kilroy RBI double, giving the Golden Bears a quick 1-0 lead.
- Colby DiMenna started the game for the Golden Bears and set down Wentworth in order, getting three groundouts in just seven pitches.
Second Inning:
- Wentworth responded with a run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at one. Matt Robinson took a hit by pitch while Josh Turcotte singled to left field, putting a pair of runners on base. DiMenna got a double play to limit the damage from the Leopards, but one run would score to tie the game.
Third Inning:
- Connor Cowern led off the top of the third inning with a triple, followed by a Mark Zigmont walk, as the Golden Bears added runs in the frame. Jack Gamache picked up a sacrifice fly, while Corey Kilroy doubled for the second time in game two, giving Western New England a 3-1 lead.
Fifth Inning:
- Western New England broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning, coming around with 11 runs on just five hits to bury Wentworth. Jack Gamache led off with a walk while Corey Kilroy quickly brought in Gamache with an RBI triple, giving WNE a 4-1 lead. Kilroy came around to score on a wild pitch, giving the Blue and Gold a 5-1 lead. Tyler Waterbury and Noah Schermerhorn notched back-to-back singles, while the Golden Bears had run with two outs and the bases loaded, seeing Connor Cowern notched a bases-loaded walk to score one, while Mark Zigmont unloaded on his first career home run, a grand slam, giving the Golden Bears a 10-1 lead.
- Western New England wasn't done in the inning, seeing Jack Gamache and Leo Paragarino walk, while Corey Kilroy was hit by a pitch, quickly loading the bases again for the Golden Bears, while the second home run of the inning, another grand slam, came off the bat of Tyler Waterbury, his first career home run, giving WNE a commanding 14-1 lead.
- Wentworth answered for three runs off DiMenna in the bottom of the fifth inning, seeing Christian Roncal launch a pinch-hit three-run homer, as the inning ended with a 14-4 score in favor of the Golden Bears after starting at 3-1.
Sixth Inning:
- Western New England saw another first-career home run in the game, adding to their lead when Jacob Kreis hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning, giving WNE a 15-4 lead.
- Wentworth answered the run with one of their own in the bottom of the inning, seeing Cyle Archer pick up an RBI double off Ian Brais.
Seventh Inning:
- The Golden Bears couldn't come up with any additional runs in the top of the seventh, but with the conference mercy run rule in effect, Lucas Kamoen shut down the Leopards in the seventh, as the game finalized with a 15-5 victory for the Blue and Gold.
Inside the Lines:
- Three home runs, including two in the top of the fifth from a pair of first-year players, paced the Golden Bears to victory. Both Mark Zigmont and Tyler Waterbury came away with grand slams in the game, securing four RBIs each. The pair combined to go 4/8 in the game and had five combined runs.
- Corey Kilroy was a perfect 3/3 at the plate, coming away with three RBIs and two runs. All three of Kilroy's hits came for extra bases, notching two doubles and a triple in the win.
- Jacob Kreis collected his first career hit, a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning.
- WNE pounded out 13 hits in the victory, while the pitching held Wentworth to just six overall.
- Colby DiMenna earned his third victory of the season, giving up five hits and four runs, while walking one and striking out three. Ian Brais and Lucas Kamoen finished the job out of the bullpen for the Golden Bears.
