SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College ran its winning streak to a season high eight games with a 19-0, 8-1 sweep over Rivier College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Trelease Park. The Golden Bears are now 22-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
Western New England College scored 11 runs in the third inning of the opener while scoring three times in both the fourth and fifth frames. Senior shortstop Justin McGee (Wilbraham, MA) collected three hits and scored three runs, freshman second baseman Ryan Kravontka (Glastonbury, CT) had two hits, two runs, and three RBI, and senior left-fielder Chris Mahoney (Yorkville, NY) had a triple and four runs-batted-in.
Senior right-fielder Kyle Hackney (Bristol, CT), sophomore first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA), and freshman right-fielder Bobby Yusko (Hudson, NY) also had two hits. Freshman Chris Anderson (Moodus, CT) allowed only one hit with seven strikeouts and one walk in five innings to improve his record to 5-0.
In the second game, sophomore Mike Richardson (Hanover, MA) fired a three-hitter with six strikeouts and a walk to raise his record to 5-0. The only run scored against him was unearned.
Mahoney led the way with two hits, including his team-high sixth homer of the season, two RBI and three runs. Junior right-fielder Bobby Zoller (Bridgewater, NJ) also had a pair of hits.
