SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior Jason Connelly (Scituate, MA) threw eight scoreless innings and senior centerfielder Jeff Maurutis (Milford, CT) had four hits to lead Western New England College to an 8-3 victory at city rival Springfield College. Connelly went the distance allowing only one earned run with six hits, 12 strikeouts, and a walk.

Senior leftfielder Chris Mahoney (Yorkville, NY) added two hits, including a lead-off homer in the fifth that gave the Golden Bears a 6-0 lead. Freshman second baseman Ryan Kravontka (Glastonbury, CT) also had two hits.

Last month Western New England College defeated Springfield 9-3 at the Port Charlotte Invitational in Florida. The Golden Bears are now 10-3 heading into a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader Saturday against Daniel Webster College at Trelease Park.
