BOSTON, Mass. - Playing its fifth game in four days and third in a little more than 24 hours, Western New England College saw its one-year reign as Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champions come to an end after top-seeded Suffolk took a 6-1 victory Sunday at Boston English High School in Jamaica Plain.
The Rams put the game away early by scoring four times in the first and twice in the second.
Western New England College, the second seed in the tournament, scored its only run in the second on a sacrifice fly by freshman designated hitter Travis Schwamb (West Springfield, MA). The Golden Bears managed only six hits, including a double by sophomore first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA).
Western New England College (28-7) had runners on base in every inning except one, but stranded 10 in losing to the Rams for the third time in four outings this spring.
