Box Score 2 NORTON, Mass. - Western New England College ended its regular season on a positive note with an 8-1 victory over Wheaton in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday. The Lyons took the opener by the score of 5-2.
Freshman lefty Chris Anderson (Moodus, CT) pitched seven and two-third strong innings in the nightcap allowing only five hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. The run scored against him was unearned. Anderson raised his record to an impressive 6-2.
Senior left-fielder Chris Mahoney (Yorkville, NY), senior right-fielder Kyle Hackney (Bristol, CT), sophomore designated hitter Garrison Ward (Wyckoff, NJ), and freshman second baseman Ryan Kravontka (Glastonbury, CT) all had two hits. Hackney also knocked in two runs while Mahoney and Ward each scored twice.
The Golden Bears managed only three hits in the opener with sophomore first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA) and Kravontka each having a hit and run. Senior catcher Matt Hackney (Bristol, CT) had the other hit. Junior Jason Connelly (Scituate, MA) lost for only the second time in 10 decisions.
Western New England College ends the year with a 31-8 record for the program's second straight 30-win season.
Wheaton, the NEWMAC Tournament champion, has a 29-10 record entering the NCAA Division III Championship.
