Western New England College opens 40th season with 1-0 win over Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Senior Paul Russo (Dix Hills, NY) scored the game-winner in the eighth minute as theÂ Western New England College men's soccer teamÂ opened its 40th season with a 1-0 victory over city rival Springfield on Thursday. Junior Tim Regan (Monroe, CT) was credited with the assist. Junior goalkeeper Chris Wilk (Derry, NH) made two saves for the Golden Bears. WNEC outshot Springfield by an 8-5 margin. This was the first match played on Springfieldâ€™s new Field Turf facility.
