KEENE, N.H. - Junior Evan Heymann (Ipswich, MA) had a goal and two assists to lead Western New England College to a 5-0 victory over New England College in a first-round game of the Diadora-Dunkin' Donuts Soccer Showdown Saturday at the Keene State Owl Athletic Complex.

The Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first half when senior Scott Meikle (New Milford, CT) fired a shot home in the fifth minute following a scramble in front of the net.

Western New England College pulled away with three goals in a six-minute span early in the second half.

Senior Paul Russo (Dix Hills, NY), who had the game-winner against Springfield on Thursday, finished off a cross from Heymann in the 48th minute. Three minutes later, Heymann found the back of the net on a breakout and junior Michael Zawislak (Newark, DE) put in a cross from Heymann to give WNEC a 4-0 lead. Senior Mike Schnepp (Feeding Hills, MA) scored later in the half to complete the scoring.

Junior Chris Wilk (Derry, NH) finished with seven saves to post his second shutout of the season.

Western New England College (2-0) will meet Husson College of Maine at noon Sunday (Sept. 4) in the final round of the tournament.
