Western New England College miscues prove costly in loss to Wheaton

Box Score

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Western New England College baseball team usually doesn't make a lot of mistakes, but five errors proved costly as Wheaton came away with an 8-5 win Thursday afternoon.

The miscues led to four unearned runs as the Golden Bears suffered only their second loss in six outings.

Western New England College banged out 13 hits, but left 16 runners on base.

Junior third baseman Josh Jacobs (Essex Junction, VT), junior first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA), junior centerfielder Garrison Ward (Wyckoff, NJ), and sophomore designated hitter Travis Schwamb (West Springfield, MA) each had two hits.

The four players have hit safely in all six games in the Sunshine State.

Junior Eric Smolin (Westford, MA) started his first game of the seaosn and took the loss.
