Box Score BRISTOL, CT - Several players made important contributions as the Western New England College baseball team ran its winning streak to eight games with a 7-6 victory over Roger Williams Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore designated hitter Travis Schwamb (West Springfield, MA) knocked in the winning run with a one-hit single in the seventh.
Junior Eric Smolin (Westford, MA) picked up the win in relief by allowing only one hit with four strikeouts in two and two-third innings. Classmate Eric Blanchard (Worcester, MA) earned the save after giving up only a single in an inning and third.
Junior centerfielder Garrison Ward (Wyckoff, NJ) starred at the plate and in the field by going 3-for-5 with a double, run, and two runs-batted-in. He also made a great catch falling over the wall to save a run in the fourth.
Western New England College led 6-0 before RWU scored five runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth to tie the game.
The Golden Bears, who were ranked first in the NEIBA Division III Coaches Poll earlier in the day, improve their record to 12-3.
