Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Eastern Connecticut State University pushed across three runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and scored four more times in the ninth to claim a 10-2 decision over Western New England College in a non conference baseball game Thursday afternoon at Trelease Park.
The Warriors (7-7) also snapped an eight-game win streak for the Golden Bears who are ranked first in the New England Division III region. It also was the team's first home loss in six outings.
Western New England College (12-4) had eight hits as junior center-fielder Garrison Ward (Wyckoff, NJ) had three singles in four at-bats. Junior first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA) went 2-for-4 with a RBI double in the first inning. Freshman Jason Pizzoferrato (Windsor, CT) suffered his first loss in three decisions.
Senior first baseman Chris DeSantis (Shrewsbury, MA) led the 16-hit Eastern Connecticut attack by going 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI. Junior center-fielder Randy Re (Danbury, CT) went 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs, and the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth. Freshman Mike Tingley (Rockville, CT) (2-0) picked-up the win in relief.
