Box Score HOLYOKE, Mass. - Western New England College jumped to a 10-0 lead after three innings and cruised to an easy 18-2 over Elms College Tuesday night in a non conference baseball game at MacKenzie Field.
The Golden Bears scored four times in the first and second innings, twice in the third, and eight times in the sixth in raising their record to 20-6. This is the sixth straight year (and seventh in eight years) that the team has reached the 20-win plateau.
Senior second baseman Jason Connelly (Scituate, MA) led the 20-hit attack with two doubles and a triple that resulted in four runs-batted-in. Freshman right fielder Chris Newall (Wallingford, CT) had two singles, a double, four runs, and a RBI.
Sophomore designated hitter Travis Schwamb (West Springfield, MA) also had a big game by slugging a two-run homer in the first inning and adding a two-run double in the third frame.
Junior center fielder Garrison Ward (Wyckoff, NJ) contributed a single, double, three runs, and a pair of RBI while sophomore third baseman Ryan Kravontka (Glastonbury, CT) chipped in with two doubles and two RBI.
Freshman Jason Pizzoferrato (Windsor, CT) allowed only one run and three hits in six innings while striking out three and walking one. He now has a 4-1 record.
