Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" A late second half comeback fell just short as the Western New England College women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-12 decision to Mount Holyoke College Thursday in a non league matchup at Golden Bear Stadium.
Sophomore midfielder Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) led the Golden Bears with five goals while junior attack player Audrey Kelton (Wilder, VT) had three goals to move into fourth place on the school's all-time list with 157 points.
Western New England College (5-4)Â couldn't stop the Lyons' scoring duo of senior attacker Caitlin Taylor (Yarmouth, ME) and freshman midfielder Marika Austin (Ashton, MD) who combined for nine goals and three assists. Taylor finished with five goals and two assists while Austin tallied four times and had one assist.
Mount Holyoke (5-7)Â led 8-7 at half-time and 12-8 with 15 minutes left in the game before the Golden Bears started a late rally.
Freshman midfielder Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY) and freshman attack player Michelle Dolan Hardcastle (Springfield, MA) scored goals in a 1:28 span to pull the Golden Bears within 13-12 with 3:21 remaining. Taylor, however, sealed the win for the visitors with her final goal with only 16 seconds left.
