SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY) scored six points with four goals and two assists, and sophomore Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) added two goals and three assists as top-seeded Western New England College rolled to a 21-6 victory over fourth-seeded Castleton State College Saturday (April 29) in a semifinal contest of the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Tournament.

Devine raised her scoring total to 102 points in two seasons in becoming only became the 10th player in the program’s eight-year history to pass the century mark.

Freshman Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) contributed three goals while freshman Michelle Dolan-Hardcastle (Springfield, MA) had two goals and an assist as 12 players compiled points. Sophomore Jill Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY) chipped in with a goal and three assists. Sophomore Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY) and freshman Molly Chamberlain (New Britain, CT) both hit the back of the net twice. Sophomore Julianna Mulroy (Wellesley, MA) had a three-point game with a goal and two assists.

Western New England College scored the first 13 goals of the contest and led 14-1 at half-time. The Golden Bears (12-4) have won seven consecutive games and 10 of their last 11 contests,

WNEC will entertain city rival Springfield at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday (April 25) in its final game of the regular season.

The Golden Bears will host second-seeded Worcester State (a 14-10 winner over third-seeded Lasell) in the NEWLA championship game next Saturday (May 6). The time will be announced later in the week.

Freshman Katelyn Greene (Westborough, MA) had three goals for the Spartans (5-7) while sophomore Nicole Bouchard (Brentwood, NH) tallied twice.
