Box Score

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Western New England College baseball ended its Florida swing on a winning note with a 10-5 victory over Wisconsin-Stevens Point Friday morning (Mar. 23) at the Port Charlotte Invitational. This was the third straight win for the Golden Bears who concluded their visit to the Sunshine State with a 5-4 mark.

Freshman second baseman Justin Walz (Groton, CT) went 4-for-4 with three runs and a RBI double while junior designated hitter Travis Schwamb (West Springfield, MA) added three hits and a pair of RBI. Senior catcher Stephen Hanjack (Enfield, CT) contributed two hits and a RBI.

Sophomore Bryan Calzone (Bethel, CT) gained the win in relief by allowing only one hit and no runs in 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and two walks. He came in with the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth and retired the first batter he faced on a sacrifice fly followed by a double play that prevented a bigger inning for the Pointers.

Freshman pitcher Matt Thadeio (West Greenwich, RI) went the final inning and a third giving up only one hit.

Western New England College scored four times in the third, twice in the fourth, and four more times in the fifth.
