Freshmen lead rally as Western New England College edges Endicott

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman second baseman Justin Walz (Groton, CT) delivered the game-winning RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Western New England College baseball team rallied for a 3-2 non-league victory over Endicott Thursday (April 19) at Trelease Park.

The Golden Bears trailed 2-0 heading into the final inning, but tied the contest when freshman right fielder Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT) knocked in the tying runs with a single.

Freshman Matthew Thadeio (West Greenwich, RI) gained the win in relief to even his record at 2-2.

The Gulls (9-12) took a 1-0 lead in the first and went ahead 2-0 on an RBI single by senior designated hitter/pitcher Erik Fields in the eighth.

Western New England College improves to 17-8 after winning its fourth consecutive game.
