WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior Eric Smolin (Westford, MA) turned in another outstanding pitching performance as Western New England College defeated host Brandeis University 5-1 in a non-league baseball game Friday afternoon (April 20) at Stein Diamond.

The lanky right-hander gave up just four hits and struck out 12 while giving up three walks in winning for the fifth time in six decisions. The run he gave up was unearned.

Senior center fielder Garrison Ward (Wyckoff, NJ) led the nine-hit attack by going 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run.

Senior first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA) also had a pairt of hits. 

The Golden Bears (18-8) tallied a pair of runs in the fourth and added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and ninth innings.

Catcher Ryan Healey had two singles for the Judges (9-11).
