SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Western New England College took an early lead before Suffolk pulled away for a 14-2 victory Monday (March 17) at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Baseball Invitational in a battle of former Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rivals.

WNEC (0-4) scored the first run of the game in the top of the second before Suffolk came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Leading 4-1 after three innings, the Rams tallied twice more in the fifth and three times in the sixth to put the gameaway.

Sophomore catcher Tyler Montrone (Wilton, CT) had a RBI double for the Golden Bears' other run in the seventh.

Senior pitcher Brian Shimansky (West Caldwell, NJ) took the loss.

Suffolk junior pitcher Tim Doyle (Milton, MA) went seven innings for the win. Sophomore catcher Rob Barrett (Milton, MA) had two hits and two RBI.
