HENNIKER, N.H. - The Western New England College women's lacrosse team kept its home playoff hopes alive with a big 24-7 victory over host New England College Thursday afternoon (Apr. 17).
The Golden Bears bounced back from a close three-goal loss at league leader Endicott on Wednesday to improve their record to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with two games remaining in the regular season.
Junior Lindsay Fenton (Pelham, MA) and freshman Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) supplied the offensive power with Fenton scoring seven goals with an assist while Barbato connected netted six goals with a pair of assists along with three draw controls.
Senior Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) added three goals, two assists, and six ground balls. Classmate Jillian Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY) scored twice and had an assist. Sophomore Rosalie Rodriguez (Norwalk, CT) also had a three-point game with a goal and two assists.
Freshmen goalies Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) (six saves, four goals allowed) and Erin Doherty (Westford, MA) (five saves, three goals) combined to stop 11 shots.
WNEC bolted to a 5-0 lead just 5:31 into the contest and took a comanding 15-4 advantage at halftime.
Brandi Vittum led the Pigrims (3-9, 3-4 TCCC) with five goals.
