Western New England College gets back on winning track against Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - It didn't take long for the No. 16 Western New England College men's lacrosse team to get back on the winning track.

Freshman Joe O'Keefe (Branford, CT) scored five goals and had two assists as the Golden Bears rebounded from last Tuesday's double overtime 8-7 loss at No. 15 Endicott with a solid 14-8 victory over Salve Regina Saturday afternoon (Apr. 19).

Sophomore Tim Sanyte (Skillman, NJ) netted two goals with two assists while senior Mike Kelly (Cheshire, CT) contributed two goals and an assist.

WNEC led 4-1 after the opening period and 5-4 at half-time before taking a 10-5 lead after the third quarter. SRU closed to within 10-8 with 11:33 remaining in the game before the Golden Bears scored the final four goals of the game.

Western New England College is now 8-4 overall and 7-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Robert Hoffman had three goals and an assist for Salve Regina who falls to 5-7 and 2-4 in the conference.
