WESTFIELD, Mass. - Junior Jason Pizzoferrato (Windsor, CT) turned in another solid pitching performance as the visiting Western New England College baseball team posted a 7-3 decision over Westfield State in a non-league outing Thursday afternoon (Apr. 24) at Alumni Field.

Pizzoferrato went eight innings allowing eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks in raising his record to 6-0.

Junior leftfielder Mike Beck (Whitesboro, NY) went 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBI, and run.

Junior centerfielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT) also enjoyed a 3-for-5 day at the plate and had two RBI.

Senior shortstop Ryan Kravontka (Glastonbury, CT) and senior designated hitter Travis Schwamb (West Springfield, MA) each added two hits.

The Golden Bears led 3-2 after the first inning and held a 4-3 advantage before scoring three big insurance runs in the eighth highlighted by a clutch two-run single by Newell.

Junior leftfielder Brad King (Perth, Ontario, Canada), junior rightfielder Scott McIntyre (Bristol, CT), and sophomore third baseman Ben Wagner (Cumberland, RI), each had two hits for the Owls (18-12-1).

Western New England College has a 25-11 record heading into a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 26) at New England College.
