SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior forward Jason Sabia (Poughkeepsie, NY) scored twice and senior forward Dale Totman (Conway, MA) added a goal and assist to lead the Western New England College men's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Eastern Nazarene Saturday (Sept. 27) at soggy Suprenant Field.
Freshman forward Eric Marcelino (Farmington, CT) added his first collegiate goal and senior defenseman Kevin Zimbal (Schenectady, NY) drilled in his first goal of the season as the Golden Bears raised their record to 3-0-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) and 6-1-2 overall.
Totman started the scoring in the sixth minute with a 30-yard shot past ENC sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Trice (Quincy, MA). Twenty minutes later Sabia tallied his first goal off the assist from senior forward Dan Hare (Staatsburg, NY).
Marcelino caught a break in the 30th minute when he drilled his shot off the left post with the ball ricocheting past Trice. Zimbal scored off a corner kick with junior midfielder Ryan Nugent (Bath, PA) assisting on the play in the 48th minute.
Sabia wrapped up the Golden Bears' scoring in the 52nd minute with the assist from Totman as both are now tied with the most goals on the squad with six.
Junior goalkeepers Dan Ruscigno (Wappingers Falls, NY) and Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) each played a half with Bak compiling three saves. Trice had a solid effort stopping 12 shots for the Crusaders (1-7-1, 1-4 TCCC).
WNEC launched 27 shots while Eastern Nazarene didn't have a shot on goal until late in the second half in finishing with three.
