Western New England College drops one-run contest to Wisconsin-La Crosse

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Senior leftfielder Darren O'Donnell (Savage, MN) belted a grand slam homer to cap a five-run eighth inning as the Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team rallied for a 10-9 victory over Western New England College Sunday (March 15) at the RussMatt Invitational.

Western New England College held an 8-4 lead before O'Donnell unloaded his game-winning blast. The Golden Bears pushed across a single in the botom of the ninth to complete the scoring.

WNEC had its best offensive showing of the season with 16 hits, but fell to 0-3 on its trip to the Grand Canyon state.

Freshman rightfielder Tom Bouvier (East Longmeadow, MA) led the way by going 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, three runs, and two runs-batted-in.

Senior centerfielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT) had three in four plate appearances.

Junior first baseman Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) added two singles and two RBI while junior second baseman Justin Walz (Groton, CT) had a pair of singles and three RBI.

Sophomore designated hitter Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) had three sacrifice flies.

Junior pitcher Matt Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) took the loss in relief.

UW-L finished with 12 hits with senior rightfielder Travis Kerr (Sun Prairie, WI) going 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.

Senior shortstop Tyler Peterson (Savage, MN) had a single, double, and two RBI for the Eagles who are now 1-1.
