CHANDLER, Ariz. - The bats continue to boom for the Western New England College baseball team.

The red-hot Golden Bears ended their spring break trip to Arizona with an impressive 21-9 victory over William Paterson (N.J.) Thursday afternoon (March 19) at Snedigar Field.

WNEC scored 88 runs in its last five games (all wins) in finishing with a 5-3 record at the RussMatt Invitational.

Sophomore shortstop Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) paced the 23-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with a double, five runs, and a pair of runs-batted-in. 

Freshman leftfielder Tom Bouvier (East Longmeadow, MA) had another strong outing with a 4-for-6 performance that included a double, three runs, and two RBI.

Senior rightfielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT), junior second baseman Justin Walz (Groton, CT), and sophomore third baseman Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT) all contributed three hits while combining for seven RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Evan Michaud (Windsor Locks, CT) picked-up the win.

Western New England College opened the scoring with five runs in the third and took an 11-2 lead with six runs in the sixth.

Junior rightfielder Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, NJ) had a two-run homer and senior centerfielder John Elia (Emerson, NJ) added a solo blast in the seventh for the Pioneers.

Freshman shortstop Rob Somers (West Long Branch, NJ) chipped-in with three singles for William Paterson who is now 5-5.

WNEC opens its home season with a doubleheader against Salve Regina starting at noon Sunday (March 22) at Trelease Memorial Park. It's also The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener for both squads.
