SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The mark of a good team is to bounce back from a tough loss and that's exactly what the Western New England College men's tennis team did in its 7-2 victory over Wentworth Saturday afternoon (March 28).
The Golden Bears, who dropped a tough 5-4 decision against Endicott Friday, won five singles matches in straight sets in raising their record to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Senior co-captain Alex Boutin (Bristol, CT) led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 singles flight. He teamed with fellow senior co-captain Jason Lee (Scarsdale, NY) for an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Lee also captured his No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-1.
Sophomores Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) and Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) continued their winning ways following an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. They are unbeaten this season with a 7-0 mark.
Relihan posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles while Jones took a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 3 singles spot.
Sophomore Steve Genovese (North Haven, CT) prevailed at No. 5 singles with a 7-5, 6-4 win.
The Leopards only wins came at the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles positions.
Wentworth falls to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
