SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore Evan Michaud (Windsor Locks, CT) pitched seven strong innings and senior leftfielder Mike Beck (Whitesboro, NY) had three hits to lead Western New England College to an 11-2 victory over visiting Springfield in a non-league baseball game Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 31) at Trelease Park.

The Golden Bears improve their record to 11-7 after playing their 18th game in the last 18 days. The Pride falls to 3-13.

Michaud, a right-hander, allowed only five hits with four strikeouts and two walks in raising his record to 2-1. Both of the runs scored against him were unearned.

Beck scored three runs and had a stolen base to lead the 13-hit attack.

Junior first baseman Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) added a single, double, run scored, and knocked in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies.

Senior centerfielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT) contributed a pair of singles with two RBI, a run scored, and stolen base.

Freshman catcher Jason LeClerc (Chicopee, MA) chipped-in with a pair of singles, RBI, and two runs scored.

WNEC scored four times in the third and three times in the fourth for an early 7-0 lead.

Springfield scored both of its runs in the fifth before the Golden Bears completed the scoring with four runs in the seventh.

Senior shortstop Jamie Mackie (Springfield, MA) had two singles while junior leftfielder Joe Kropa (Cranford, NJ) had a double and sacrifice fly for the Pride.

Freshman second baseman Mike Corletta (Westtown, NY) had a single, run scored, and stolen base. Sophomore Steve Forbes (Northport, NY) took the loss.

Springfield committed four errors, which led to three unearned runs.
