Western New England College tops Eastern Nazarene for second straight league victory

QUINCY, Mass. -  The visiting Western New England College men's tennis team defeated Eastern Nazarene 7-2 in a well-played The Commonwealth Coast Conference match Wednesday afternoon (April 1).

The Golden Bears are now 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference while the Crusaders drop to 8-4 and 2-3 in the league.

WNEC captured two of three doubles matches and five of six singles flights in gaining their second straight win.

Senior co-captain Alex Boutin (Bristol, CT) led the way with a 7-5, 6-1 decision over junior Michael Chan (Quincy, MA) at the No. 1 singles spot. 

Freshman Steve Genovese (North Haven, CT) had the longest match posting a thrilling 6-1, 6-7, 14-12 victory over freshman James Rich (Duxbury, MA).

Genovese also teamed with freshman JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) for an 8-6 win at the No. 3 doubles position.

Sophomores Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) and Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) took an 8-4 victory to remain unbeaten (8-0) at No. 1 doubles. Relihan also was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at the No. 2 singles spot.

Senior co-captain Jason Lee (Scarsdale, NY) and Ouelette won their No. 4 and No. 6 singles, matches, respectively, in straight sets.
