Western New England College takes advantage of wild pitches to defeat Brandeis

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore right-hander Evan Michaud (Windsor Locks, CT) tossed a five-hitter for his third straight win as the Western New England College baseball team defeated visiting Brandeis 4-1 in the first game of a non-league doubleheader Saturday (April 11) at Trelease Park.

The second contest was postponed because of rain.

Michaud struck out one and didn't walk a batter in raising his record to 4-1. He gave up two hits and a run in the first inning and then held the Judges in check the rest of the way.

Western New England College scored twice in the bottom of the first and added single runs in the fifth and sixth. All the runs came home on wild pitches.

Senior leftfielder Mike Beck (Whitesboro, NY), junior rightfielder Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT), junior shortstop Justin Walz (Groton, CT), and sophomore third baseman Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT) each had a single and run scored.

Junior second baseman John O'Brion (Portland, ME) had a RBI single for Brandeis who falls to 11-16.

Western New England College improves its record to 17-10.
