Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore
Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) netted four goals in the first half as the Western New England College women's lacrosse team cruised to its third consecutive win with a 17-2 decision over visiting Salve Regina on Tuesday (April 14) on Senior Day.
Seniors
Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA),
Erin Conn (Yorktown Heights, NY),
Cougar Moynihan (South Glastonbury, CT),
Ashley Richard (South Hadley, MA), and
Brie Sylvia (West Tisbury, MA) were honored prior to the game for their contributions to the program.
Western New England College exploded to a 10-0 run ignited by Thompson (three goals, one assist) and Barbato who each scored back-to-back goals before Salve Regina senior Nicole Fecteau (Wilbraham, MA) scored at 10:59 in the first half.
WNEC put together a 3-0 run by senior
Lindsay Fenton (Pelham, MA) (three goals, one assist), Conn (three goals), and sophomore
Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT) who scored her first goal of the season on a free position shot for a 13-1 lead at halftime.
Salve Regina broke up another Golden Bears' run at 18:00 in the second half as senior Brittany Marino (Mt. Sinai, NY) put in her team's last score of the game. She also had two draw controls.
Moynihan and Conn wrapped up the scoring with 11 minutes remaining in the contest.
On the defensive end, sophomore
Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) picked up seven ground balls, had four caused turnovers, and a draw control.
Sylvia got her first start and victory this season and finished with nine saves.
Junior goalie Sarah Barker (Summit, NJ) collected six saves for the Seahawks.
Western New England College is now 7-5 overall and 5-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Salve Regina drops to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
