Box Score KEENE, N.H. - The new Yankee Stadium isn't the only place where the ball is flying out of the park.
With the two teams combining for six home runs, Keene State edged visiting Western New England College 7-6 in a non-league baseball game called after seven innings Wednesday (April 22) because of rain.
The last ball to leave Owl Stadium proved to be the game-winner when KSC freshman third baseman Erik Bergstrom (Enfield, CT) launched a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the sixth.
It was the fourth homer of the day for the home squad who improved its record to 17-13.
Western New England College went deep twice in the third scoring four runs for a 5-3 advantage when sophomore second baseman Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) rifled a three-run shot followed by a solo blast two batters later by freshman designated hitter Matt Fleishman (East Northport, NY).
Keene State tied the score in the bottom of the inning on solo homers by junior designated hitter Keith Patnode (Keene, NH) and junior catcher Anthony Cipolla (Glastonbury, CT).
WNEC (23-13) took a 6-5 lead in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by senior leftfielder Mike Beck (Whitesboro, NY) before the Owls quickly tied the contest on a solo home run by sophomore right fielder Bobby Doyon (Keene, NH).
Doyon prevented the tying run from scoring in the seventh with a diving catch with a runner on second and two outs.
Fatse finished with four RBI and two runs scored for the Golden Bears while Fleishman, senior center fielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT), and junior shortstop Justin Walz (Groton, CT) had contributed two hits.
Sophomore pitcher Ed Lacourse (Manchester, NH) pitched three scoreless innings of relief to gain his first victory of the season.
Junior Matt Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) (3-3) took the loss.
