Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) and senior
Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA) combined for 11 points as the Western New England College women's lacrosse team rolled past Mount Holyoke 22-13 for its first win of the season Saturday (March 6).
Toomy tossed in a career high five goals while Fenton netted four goals with two assists in addition to picking up a game high four ground balls.
Senior
Jackie Gannon (Saunderstown, RI) also tallied four goals for the Golden Bears who received goals from nine players.
Mount Holyoke jumped to a 5-0 lead after the opening 7:06 before WNEC came back to take a 12-6 advantage at halftime.
Western New England College had an eight-goal lead at 14-6 just 3:08 into the second stanza before MHC scored six straight times to get with two (14-12) with 21:46 remaining. The Golden Bears answered with eight consecutive goals to break the game open.
Junior
Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT) had three goals and an assist while classmate
Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) had two goals and an assist. Poli also added eight draw controls and three ground balls.
Freshman
Megan Doyle (Putnam Valley, NY) also scored twice.
Junior
Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) had a three-point afternoon with a goal and two assists. Freshman
Julianne Greene (Brightwaters, NY) contributed her first collegiate goals. Junior goalie
Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) compiled 14 saves.
The Lyons received a nice performance from junior
Clara Raugel (Alpharetta, GA) who fired in four goals with an assist. Sophomore
Hilary Bombard (Northampton, MA) added two goals and an assist.
Senior
Peggy Wefald (Granger, IN) and junior
Georgia Markell (Portsmouth, RI) both had two goals.
This was the season opener for Mount Holyoke.
