Matt LaBranche wins 300th game as Golden Bears down Hawks in second game of TCCC doubleheader

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- Matt LaBranche won his 300th career game as the Western New England College baseball team defeated visiting Roger Williams 10-4 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon (Apr. 10) at Trelease Park.

The Golden Bears also posted an 11-2 win over the Hawks in the first game in running their record to 19-6 overall and 10-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

LaBranche, who has guided his team to six appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament the last nine years, has a 300-144 mark (67.6 winning percentage) in 11 seasons.

In the opener, junior third baseman Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT) walloped a two-run homer that tied the game in the first inning. He finished with three hits, three RBI, and three runs.

Junior designated hitter Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) added a triple that drove in three runs to highlight a five-run fifth inning. He also doubled and scored a run.

Sophomore Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, CT) had an effective outing going four innings allowing only one hit, two runs (one earned) with four strikeouts and two walks. He now has a 3-2 record.

Western New England College started early in the second game taking a 3-0 lead after two innings before scoring six times in the third for a 9-2 advantage.

Dudzinski came through with a two-run single in the third and had three RBI, a run, and two stolen bases (his 18th and 19th of the season) in the game.

Sophomore right fielder Tom Bouvier (East Longmeadow, MA) had two hits, a run, and two RBI.

Senior Matt Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) improved to 5-1 after allowing only five hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts in six innings.

Roger Williams (4-18, 2-10 TCCC) managed only eight hits in the twin bill.

Sophomore left fielder Tim Georgen (Bristol, CT) had two hits and a run in the second contest while senior Grant Bolin (Simsbury, CT) had a single and two RBI. Freshman third baseman John Oppenhimer (Westport, CT) contributed a two-run double.
