HENNIKER, N.H. -- The Western New England College baseball team received a pair of top-notch pitching performances in posting an 8-0, 7-0 doubleheader sweep over host New England College Friday afternoon (Apr. 2).
Senior
Matt Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) allowed only three hits in five innings in the opener striking out five and walking one. He now has a 3-1 record.
Junior
Zach Cloft (Glastonbury, CT) finished off the shutout after giving up only one with a pair of strikeouts in the final two innings.
Junior designated hitter
Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) led the 14-hit attack with a two singles, a homer, two runs, two runs-batted-in, and a stolen base.
Senior first base player
Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) also collected three hits, including a double, while scoring twice and knocking in a run.
Senior shortstop
Justin Walz (Groton, CT), junior left fielder
Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA), and junior catcher
Jason LeClerc (Chicopee, MA) each added a pair of hits.
In the second game, junior
Evan Michaud (Windsor Locks, CT) fanned eight and allowed only one hit in six innings to raise his record to 2-0. Sophomore
Joe Bender (Lebanon, CT) struck out two in the last inning
The Golden Bears banged out 15 hits, including five doubles with five players having multi-hit outings.
Sophomore right fielder
Tom Bouvier (East Longmeadow, MA) had a pair of two-base hits while junior third baseman
Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT) and LeClerc both singled and doubled. The three players each scored a run and had a RBI as did Dudzinksi who singled twice.
Senior center fielder
Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT) chipped-in with a pair of singles.
Western New England College now has a 12-4 record, which includes a 4-2 mark in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Senior shortstop
Scott Miller (Mt. Airy, MD) singled in each game for the Pilgrims who fall to 2-15 overall and 0-8 in the league.
