Western New England College runs win streak to five after defeating Gordon in TCCC games

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- The Western New England College baseball team ran its winning streak to five games after defeating Gordon by the scores of 6-3 and 19-2 Saturday afternoon (Apr. 3) at sun-baked Trelease Park.

The Golden Bears are now 14-4 overall and 6-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Freshman second baseman Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) was the hitting star going 6-for-7 with four runs and four runs-batted-in. He doubled and drilled his first collegiate homer in the opener, then went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs, and three RBI in the second contest.

Junior third baseman Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT) also collected a pair of hits in each outing. He doubled and scored a run in the first contest and singled twice with two runs, and two RBI in the following game.

Freshman pitcher Kevin Jefferis (Cheshire, CT) improved his record to 3-0 after allowing five hits with four strikeouts and a walk to start the doubleheader. Sophomore Mike Lawlor (Windsor, CT) fanned two and didn't give up a hit in one-and-a-third innings to gaining his second save of the spring.

WNEC also received a nice pitching performance from sophomore Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, CT) in the second game. He went six innings allowing only five hits and one earned run while striking out six to even his mark at 2-2.

Senior shortstop/pitcher Steve Kefalas (Wenham, MA) hit a two-run homer for the Fighting Scots in the opener and singled and scored a run in the second contest. Junior third baseman Stephen Myhren (Vernon, NJ) had a hit in each game. 

Senior shortstop Jonathan Waldie (Methuen, MA) and freshman second baseman Ben Davidson (Sterling, MA) each had two hits in the second game.

Gordon falls to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the league.
