BROCKTON, Mass. - The Western New England College baseball team split a doubleheader with Curry dropping the opener 4-3 before bouncing back for a 3-2 victory in the second game Wednesday (Apr. 7).
The Golden Bears, who played nine games in five days, now have a 17-6 record and 8-4 mark in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Colonels are 14-8 and 10-2 in the conference.
Freshman
Kevin Jefferis (Cheshire, CT) was the winning pitcher in the nightcap giving up seven hits and two runs with a pair of strikeouts and walks. He is now 4-0 in his rookie campaign.
Sophomore
Mike Lawlor (Windsor, CT) came in with the tying run on second after Curry tied the contest and fanned the only batter he faced for his fourth save of the season.
Senior center fielder
Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT) had a single and knocked in what proved to be the winning run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly. He also walked with the bases loaded in the fifth.
In the first game, senior first baseman
Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) had three hits with an RBI single in the first and double in the second that gave the Golden Bears a 3-2 lead. He also had a double in the second game.
Junior designated hitter
Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) singled, doubled, scored twice, and stole his 17th base of the season.
