SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England men's soccer team used a balanced scoring attack to open play in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with an impressive 4-0 win over New England College Saturday (Sept. 11).
Freshman forward
Andrew Rose (Farmington, CT) got the scoring started for the Golden Bears as he buried home a rebound opportunity in the 13th minute. WNEC struck again before the half as freshman forward
Jake Bartnik (East Longmeadow, MA) delivered a shot in the bottom right corner in the 39th minute.
Senior midfielder
Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) wasted no time just 1:23 into the second half as he buried a shot on a beautiful cross from junior
Eric Marcelino (Farmington, CT) that was helped set up by senior midfielder
Alex Dos Santos (Ludlow, MA). The final goal was scored by junior forward
Austin Santolini (Agawam, MA) off a feed from Bartnik.
Goalkeeper
Pat Harkin (Scituate, RI) made six saves for the Pilgrims, while WNEC freshman
Domenic Villano (Bronxville, NY) recorded the shutout after turning away four saves.
With the victory, Western New England College improves its record to 2-2-1 while the Pilgrims fall to 2-2.
The Golden Bears return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 15) at 4:00 p.m. with a non-league home match against Keene State College at Suprenant Field.
